Folklore has it that Apple Valley was originally called Appleton Valley after the owner of the Appleton Land
& Water Company. In the early 1900s there were hundred of acres of fruit trees but these died out by mid
century. The community was incorporated as a town in 1988, at that time the population was close to 50,000.
Today the population is around 70,000 and the town is expanding rapidly.
